NUESTRA HISTORIA
Cuando Marily Reyes, fundadora de The Cove/Rincón, cuenta la historia del origen de esta familia cultural, dice que cuando ella le contaba a todo el mundo su sueño, le contestaban que era una “dreamer”.
Relata que iba a todas partes con su camiseta con el dibujo del rostro de John Lennon y cantaba:
… “Imagine all the people
Livin’ for today
Ah ah ah ah…
…You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one”.
En 1995 el sueño de Marily Reyes se convirtió en realidad y nació The Cove/Rincón que debe su nombre al hecho de que en sus inicios los primeros miembros del pequeño grupo se reunían en cualquier “rincón” que pudieran: parques, cafés, o un rincón en la casa de cualquiera de ellos.
Marily cuenta que siempre escribió poesía, pero que en Miami, en los años 90, no había ningún lugar donde pudiera compartirlas con otros, hasta que un día asistió a la nueva Feria del Libro de Miami y allí conoció a un grupo de Palm Beach que iba a Miami cada tres meses y se reunía en el Miami Dade College. Pronto se unió a ellos. Al tiempo notó que el grupo era exclusivamente de poetas, pero que había muchas personas que escribían prosa, música, pintaban o actuaban y se sentían muy frustrados de no tener en donde y con quien compartir sus obras. Terminó abandonando el grupo y comenzó a imaginarse una cofradía abierta a todas las artes y nacionalidades, bilingüe, sin fines de lucro a través de la cual fuese posible compartir.
En una entrevista concedida a El Nuevo Herald para History Miami cuenta a la entrevistadora, Lisann Ramos, que cuando sus hijos comenzaron en la universidad cristalizó su idea y en agosto de 1995 su organización quedó legalmente constituida.
Relata que poco tiempo después, se reunió con la Dra. Uva de Aragón del Cuban Research Institute de FIU. Le contó sus inquietudes, su sueño y le presentó los papeles legales de la recién creada organización; le pidió su apoyo para conseguir un salón para sus reuniones en FIU.
Al poco tiempo, la Dra. Aragon asistió a una reunión de The Cove/Rincón en la casa de su fundadora, junto a sus primeros miembros. Días después, envió una carta de recomendación al Latin American and Caribbean Center (LACC) solicitando que otorgarán a la novel organización un salón permanente para sus reuniones mensuales.
En octubre de ese mismo año The Cove/Rincón tuvo su presentación oficial, a casa llena, en la Universidad Internacional de la Florida (FIU).
Desde 1995, FIU se convirtió en su espacio de encuentro permanente y desde entonces, se reúne mensualmente en el edificio Primera Casa, el mismo donde lo hizo por primera vez, y a la doctora Uva de Aragón la nombraron cariñosamente la madrina del grupo.
Hoy, The Cove/Rincón es una organización internacional sin fines de lucro que reúne a cientos de miembros que se encuentran en diferentes rincones del mundo.
Integran su organización, músicos, compositores, actores, fotógrafos, pintores, bailarines, cantantes, declamadores y muchos otros, reuniendo de ésta forma a todas las artes en un solo espacio; y mientras sueltan ese bohemio interno, mantienen su promesa de alimentar la amistad entre poetas y artistas, así como diseminar las artes y la cultura, tanto local como internacionalmente.
Se encuentran los segundos viernes de cada mes en FIU a las 7:00 de la noche. Estas reuniones son abiertas al público y gratuitas. Siempre se presenta un invitado especial en cualquiera de las expresiones artísticas y tienen micrófono abierto, lo cual convierte el encuentro en una velada inolvidable.
Realizan presentaciones de libros, guían a sus escritores con sus manuscritos y se encuentran nuevamente para acompañar y apoyar a los que presentan sus obras y se dan a conocer en un ambiente propicio en el que confirman la unión que identifica a todos aquellos que forman parte de esta familia cultural.
Además de los encuentros en FIU, desarrollan actividades de diferentes tipos en otras instituciones que le brindan un importante apoyo como New Professions Technical Institute (NPTI), Humbolt International University, Miami Dade College (MDC), Universidad URBE, Biblioteca JFK, entre otros.
El apoyo que le brindan los medios de comunicación a la organización ha hecho que esta sea reconocida internacionalmente en el ámbito de la cultura. Desde la Patagonia hasta Estocolmo, las actividades de The Cove/Rincón han sido apoyados por diarios, revistas, la radio, televisión y en estos tiempos los medios digitales. Muchos se mantienen en contacto permanente para conocer y difundir sus actividades y novedades.
En la actualidad The Cove/Rincón tiene su propio sello editorial y su publicación oficial: una revista que edita dos veces al año.
Integran sus miembros personas de Argentina, Austria, Brasil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, España, Estados Unidos, Guatemala, Honduras, Italia, México, Nicaragua, Panama, Perú, Puerto Rico, República Dominicana, Uruguay y Venezuela, y se siguen sumando a ésta gran familia cultural.
Y todo comenzó cuando Marily Reyes le contó a Uva de Aragón sobre el sueño que imaginaba y FIU, con el apoyo del LACC, se convirtió en el hogar de The Cove/Rincón.

OUR STORY
When Marily Reyes, founder of The Cove/Rincón, tells the story of the beginning of this cultural family, she says that when she told people about her dream, she was told that she was a “dreamer”.
She says that she would go everywhere wearing her T-shirt with John Lennon’s face on it and sing:
… “Imagine all the people
Livin’ for today
Ah ah ah ah ah…
…You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one”.
In 1995 Marily Reyes’ dream came true and The Cove/Rincón was born, named after the fact that in its early days the first members of the small group would meet in any “nook” they could: parks, cafes, or a corner in anyone’s house.
Marily says that she always wrote poetry, but in Miami, in the 1990s, there was no place where she could share it with others, until one day she went to the new Miami Book Fair and there she met a group from Palm Beach that went to Miami every three months and met at Miami Dade College. She soon joined them. In time she noticed that the group was exclusively for poets, and that there were many people who wrote prose, music, painted or acted and were very frustrated that they had no place and no one to share their work with. Marily ended up leaving the group and began to imagine a brotherhood open to all the Arts and nationalities, bilingual, non-profit, where it would be possible to share one’s work.
In an interview with El Nuevo Herald for History Miami, she tells interviewer Lisann Ramos that when her children started college, her idea crystallized and in August 1995 her organization was legally constituted.
She says that shortly after that, she met with Dr. Uva de Aragón of FIU’s Cuban Research Institute. She told her about her concerns, dreams and presented her with the legal papers of the newly created organization; she asked for Dr. Aragón for he support in obtaining a room for their meetings at FIU.
Soon after, Dr. Aragon attended a meeting of The Cove/Rincón at the home of its founder, along with its first members. Days later, she sent a letter of recommendation to the Latin American and Caribbean Center (LACC) requesting that they grant the fledgling organization a permanent room for its monthly meetings.
In October of that same year, The Cove/Rincón had its official presentation, to a full house, at Florida International University (FIU).
Since 1995, FIU became its permanent meeting space and since then, they gather monthly in the Primera Casa Building, the same building where they met for the first time and Dr. Uva de Aragón was affectionately named the group’s godmother.
Today, The Cove/Rincón is an international non-profit organization that brings together hundreds of members from different corners of the world.
Musicians, composers, actors, photographers, painters, dancers, singers, declaimers and many others make up the organization, bringing together all the arts in a single space; and while releasing that inner bohemian, they keep their promise to nurture the friendship between poets and artists, as well as to disseminate the arts and culture, both locally and internationally.
They meet on the second Friday of every month at FIU at 7:00 pm.. These meetings are open to the public and free of charge. They always feature a special guest in any of the artistic expressions and have an open microphone, which turns the meeting into an unforgettable evening.
They make book presentations, guide their writers with their manuscripts and meet again to accompany and support those who present their works and make themselves known in a propitious environment in which they confirm the union that identifies all those who are a part of this cultural family.
In addition to the meetings at FIU, they hold activities of different types in other institutions that provide important support such as New Professions Technical Institute (NPTI), Humbolt International University, Miami Dade College (MDC), URBE University, JFK Library, among others.
The support provided by the media to the organization has made it internationally recognized in the field of culture. From the Patagonia to Stockholm, the activities of The Cove/Rincón have been supported by newspapers, magazines, radio, television and nowadays by the digital media. Many keep in permanent contact with the Cove/Rincón to learn about its activities and news.
Today, The Cove/Rincón has its own publishing seal and its official publication: a magazine published twice a year.
Its members come from Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Italy, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain, United States, Uruguay and Venezuela, and continue to join this great cultural family.
And it all began when Marily Reyes told Uva de Aragón about the dream she imagined and FIU, with the support of the LACC, became the home of The Cove/Rincón.
